Kiln Carving Pattern for Recycled Glass

The free Kiln Carving Pattern for May is a beginner level design, perfect for anyone who wants to try kiln carving but isn’t sure where to start! After you’ve downloaded the pattern, follow these easy steps and you’ll have a lovely kiln carved flower in no time flat.

This pattern is no longer available for individual download.  To download the free 2012 Kiln Carving Patterns compilation book, please visit the Shop.

1.  Cut a piece of fiber paper big enough for the entire kiln carving (inside the black line)  I prefer to have some extra so I can tack down the fiber and pattern together.  There are handy black dots for tack placement.

2.  Carefully cut out the gray area’s of the pattern, making sure you cut through the pattern AND the fiber paper.  I prefer to use a brand new X-acto knife blade for each pattern as the fiber paper quickly dulls the edge.

3.  Cut around the heavy black border after you have removed all of the gray area’s.

4.  Cut a piece of glass large enough to cover the entire cut pattern.  I’m using float glass for this project.  Fire to a full fuse.

After you’ve finished fusing the glass, consider slumping it into a little dish for hold jewelry or soap.  I’m sure your mom would love one!

Sometimes, ok, most of the time, I look at the giant mess and have no idea where to start, so I just pick a spot and work my way around the room in one direction. Works as well as anything I suppose. I this case I started with the giant table. This is a dream of a...
