Painted cats, Sandblasting and Cat TV

This week in the studio has been really busy, holiday shows are coming up and I’m making a lot of fused bottle glass animals.  I’m a little tired of making the same old thing, so I gave the black cat a little redesign, here he is in process:

I also spent some time making a beautiful piece of artwork for the Friends of Great Salt Lake fundraiser.  You may remember the Brine Shrimp plates I made for this organization last spring.  Here is their donation piece.  It’s 18″ wide x 9″ and 3/8″ thick.  This is a recycled glass table top that has been cut, coldworked, painted with silver mica and then slumped.  After it was slumped, I hand cut the sandblasting mask and sandblasted the pattern on.

 

And last, but not least, my cats have been intently watching the compost bins through the window this week, and I finally figured out what they were looking at.
