Fusing Large and Small Bottles

Answering the age old question that is keeping us all awake at night:

Do large and small bottles fuse the same?

Let’s try it and see:

I’m using a 1.5L Bombay Sapphire Gin Bottle, and a tiny airline size Bombay Sapphire Gin bottle.

After cleaning them both very well, into the kiln they go:

Then fire to a full fuse:

Looks like they do fuse the same.  The tiny bottle is a little more flat, but I would have expected that due to the lesser volume of glass.  The edges are nicely rounded on both bottles with no devitrification or needling.  To get an even flatter bottle, you could add a couple more minutes to the top hold of the fusing firing schedule.

Got a burning glass question keeping you up at night?  Let me know, I just may have an answer!

love the Bombay Saphire Gin bottles, but how to get the glue from the labels off? I scrub, and I scrub...

tomzachman If you can soak the bottles overnight in a bucket of water with a little vinegar and dish soap, they come off more easily...then I scrape off what's left with a razor blade.  Still pretty labor intensive!  I do love the color though...

GlassWithaPast ah..yes, I soaked overnight, but did not think of trying vinegar...ended up scrubbing with BonAmi cleanser..you are right...the color is AWESOME...

tomzachman  GlassWithaPast   Tom;  we were in line at the grocery store and the little TV had a tip about removing labels with a hair-dryer.  We came home and tried it on Bombay bottles.  Using a hair dryer on hot for about 30 seconds does make the adhesive more brittle and easier to scrape away.  Still doesn't make it a breeze though!
